The Little Theatre’s 2011–2012 season has something for everyone—drama, comedy, fantasy. So plan ahead, get your season tickets early and think about lending your talents on or offstage.

God’s Favorite

God's FavoriteBy Neil Simon
Directed by Jeff Schlicher
Performances: September 23, 24, 30, Oct 1, 2*, 7, 8
By Permission of Samuel French
Gallery Artist: Leslie Williams Cain - Painting

About the Show:
Successful Long Island businessman Joe Benjamin is a modern-day 'Job' with a high-maintenance wife, ungrateful children and wise-cracking household help. Just when it seems things couldn’t get any worse, he is visited by Sidney Lipton aka A Messenger from God (and compulsive film buff) with a mission: test Joe’s faith and report back to “the Boss”.  The jokes and Tests of Faith fly fast and furious as Neil Simon spins a contemporary morality tale like no other in this hilarious comedy.

Contains adult content and language.

All My Sons

show posterBy Arthur Miller
Directed by Gene R. Dahl
Performances: November 18, 19, 25, 26, 27*, December 2, 3
By Permission of Samuel French
Gallery Artist: Diane Jones – Painting

About the Show:
During the war Joe Keller and Herbert Deever ran a machine shop which made airplane parts. Deever was sent to prison because the firm turned out defective parts, causing the deaths of many men. Keller went free and made a lot of money. The twin shadows of this catastrophe and the fact that the young Keller son was reported missing during the war dominated the action. The love affair of Chris Keller and Ann Deever, the bitterness of George Deever returned from the war to find his father in prison and his father’s partner free, are all set in a structure of almost unbearable power. The climax showing the reaction of a son to his guilty father is a fitting conclusion to a play electrifying in its intensity.

Casting Call: The production needs six women of varying ages

About the Show:
The quintessential story of friendship and trust, Steel Magnolias serves up a southern slice of life that’s as warm and comforting as sweet potato pie! In the world of Truvy’s local-homegrown beauty salon, six very different women come together to share their secrets, hopes and fears and love for one another while engaging the audience in hysterical and neighborly gossip. From weddings to divorces, babies to funerals, new beginnings to happy endings, they share each moment in their lives with grace, determination, and perfectly coiffed hair. As the title suggests these six women can be as delicate as magnolias but are as tough as steel.

Casting Call: There are about 26 characters—both large and small roles. She hopes to cast people of varying ages—older teens to 70 years. With trolls, dwarves, goblins, wargs, wood-elves, spiders, eagles, a dragon and more, there should be a role just for you.

About the Show:
It’s unusual for modern work to become a classic so quickly, but Tolkien’s “ring” stories, which began with The Hobbit, clearly are in this very special category. They stir the imagination and intellect of everyone they touch. Bilbo, one of the most conservative of all Hobbits, is asked to leave his large, roomy and very dry home in the ground in order to set off as chief robber in an attempt to recover an important treasure. It’s the last thing that any sensitive Hobbit would want to do, but great benefit eventually results – not only for Bilbo but for all of the Hobbits who inhabit Middle Earth – and the hearts of those children and adults who continue to enjoy this kind of magic.
