Volunteering
Wanted—Needed—Appreciated
The Little Theatre is one of the few organizations
that are still run completely by volunteers.
Many not for profit organizations have gone
to hired staff members in order to keep up
with the changing times. LT has a board of
twelve elected members that are responsible
for the overall running of the theatre. There
are numerous committees, which are run by board members and are often only populated
with board members.
There are so many ways for an individual to get involved at the little theatre. The great thing about LT is you can spend as much time as you want being involved. If you have just some time and really just want to get your feet wet, there jobs such as, hanging posters for productions and auditions, ushering for a show night, or look for our announcements for work parties and come for an hour or two and paint, clean, sort and organize there are lots of jobs to be done. Maybe you like committee work and projects. We have a range of committees that are responsible for everything from maintenance to play selection. You may be interested in working in our box office, or helping with opening night Galas. If you enjoy sewing, but don't wish to take on the job of costuming, we always need people who can sew a costume or two, or maybe just hem and mend some costume pieces. Are you an artist? Maybe you would like to paint a scene on a wall or canvas or help in detail painting of a set. You see there are lots of little ways to get involved.
However, if your interests are more then just a few hours, then there are even more ways to get involved. Maybe you want to learn about the technical parts of the Little Theatre, lights, building sets, props etc...or maybe you are an organizer and leader type, you would enjoy producing or stage managing. Maybe you enjoy tinkering and fixing things—maintenance of our building is a huge job and is often managed by few people.
You see you don’t have to be an actor or director to get involved—there is so much more to the theatre. However, if you do have interests in acting—we encourage you to come and audition for a part. Start small and work your way up to the big roles. If you have ambitions in directing, start by producing, stage managing and get a feel for the over all workings of the theatre.
Those of you that are business oriented, we
need some people who will commit to fundraising.
This would include grant searches and writing.
We need people who are savvy in the area
of securing funding for projects. We
have a variety of building projects that need attention as well as an endowment
fund we wish to keep growing—but all of this takes money. Our
productions basically make enough money to keep the theatre operational,
but in order to continue to improve our technology and building we need
money from outside sources.
You can see that there is a place for just about anyone who wants to get involved.
We have so many ways for you to use your skills other then just on stage! So
considers giving some time to one of the last “All Volunteer” organizations!
